Subconscious American Ethnocentrism?

Not too long ago I was perusing through the USA Today and I found the picture you see to the left. I'll give you a couple of seconds to take a look at it. Ok, now that you have, what were some of the thoughts that came to mind: 1) Expected 2) Those sports that rise to the top were those that were imported, etc. Well, true to the two aforementioned reasons, but as you might have deduced from the title of this post, I found a third reason which I think is/could be pretty interesting. American's are ethnocentric. No its not a criticism, but based on previous (academic) research this rings true over and over. So with this in mind, I then thought, well what sports don't have that strong of a following? Then I thought what sport has been losing its following lately? The answer were the top three, which happened to be the ones with the most players born outside the US. It has definitely been a while since I've had a chance to blog - but life goes on, right?! Any way, so I was watching the show How I Met Your Mother , which let me say that if you haven't seen it you have to - its fun, funny and the characters are very well developed; I mean they really reflect today's late 20's early 30's metro-guy/gal. With that said, it is important that I mention that today's blog is not necessarily about the show, but about a comment Robin said. The title of the show was "Hooked" - nop, no Texas reference here. The term "hooked" has to do with ... Bueller, anyone... anyone... relationships. So you are officially hooked when you think you are dating someone, but you really aren't.
